Evaluation Draft

Evaluation Draft One – How I Will Address Each Question

Qu 1 – Write a paragraph linked with images and example of my media product which has these specific elements and features of the magazine. Also add why those are specifically affective and why I should use those and how they affect the reader and what connotations/ ideas the reader has when looking at my media product and why these conventions help.

Qu 2- Have a large image then analyse the way in which I have thought about the costumes, the angles and the way in which I have created an image and a style which represents the genre of rock. I will also look at the fonts and colours used and the connotations of these colours and why I used them.

Qu 3 – What kind of shops would have my magazine, talk about the online version which I have noticed a lot of magazines now have. Such as Classic Rock and Q. Looking at how music shops often have specific magazines in the shop for purchase specifically for a genre such as rock, classical, pop this could be another way in which I could distribute it. Could also link to product placement.

Q4/5 – Look at someone who would like the magazine and look at why they would read it being a rock fan. Then ask them what they find appealing about the magazine, do they like colours and ask a series of questions on why and what they like about each part of my magazine, if I video this I can prove that I have addressed my target audience as well as adapt to suit that target audience. Which answers both 4 and 5 together using a video makes it appealing and will help prove that my magazine is appealing and tailored for the specific audience.

Qu 6 – Show images of the programme (serif) and analyse the tools I used and why I used them also compare the first draft to the last draft and explain how the software and technology has improved my work and has made the product more professional and look good.

Qu 7 – On Serif, have a screen shot of my prelim and my coursework and show exactly what is better and what I have learnt along the way linking back to the technology and how I have learnt to use it. Also mention how I used Photoshop for time purposes and so I had enough time to get all the completed in the time as Photoshop is a familiar platform for me and made it easier to work with.

Research and Planning for Magazine

Genre – Soft Rock

Definition – A rock which is referred to being popular, at the same time as being rock (Rock Pop)

Target Audience – Rock listeners who are looking for new bands who are in the style of classic rock

Additional Reasearch and Results

Questionnaire Results
The colours which people mainly like for a rock magazine is purple, also a lot of people voted that they prefer a more relaxed and calm cover for a rock magazine rather than having a busy one. This is because the colours are relaxed and much more relaxed. The reason some liked Kerrang was because it’s a typical rock magazine. Also because of the red colours makes it look good for the genre. The name which has come out on top was “Knock Knock” but because this is a Thailand fashion magazine I have decided to go to my number two option which is “Rock Unplugged”
My final question was a very interesting question about what people look for in an artist. Nine people said that they look for talents rather than looks.

Product Placement
Product placement is the placement of a product that is used in a range of different places and ways of subtle on television or in shows. This will sub consciously and make people want to buy it if they see someone reading it on screen.
To do this there must be an agreement between the company and the show to allow both to be used in the show or on television. The successes of this is huge and it is an easy way of advertising your magazine on a grand scale.
Music magazines are sold in a huge range of ways, supermarkets, small shops, news agents, online delivery, and email delivery and of course on kindles and other devices such as tablets and phones.
A good way of using product placement is to have the main character reading the magazine, this will encourage the viewers to read that magazine because their favourite character has read it!
This way of marketing is strong and enables people to be very subtle with what they do.
For this magazine, because it is a new magazine, it just needs to be put out there so people can know what it is and so people can actually see it and want to buy it. So anyway in which I can put my magazine into a show or on the media I will take.

Research and how it will affect My Magazine

I have researched and analysed three media artefacts. This will enable me to use certain sections and specifics that I think would be affective in my magazine. Also the fact that I have asked people in my questionnaire what they like and what they prefer will also enable me to create a good house style for my specific audience and for my specific genre. The colour scheme is very important and this in particular will be important for me to get right for my specific magazine because the magazine needs to look good.

Early Plans

Main Article – Plain Regrets

Contents – Plain Regrets

House style – Front cover – Colours of The band featured, Black and white image. Title in Gold with                        black boarder reflecting the retro look of rock.

White, Black, Yellow, Red (fiery colours)

Contents neatly labelled out with boxed for each featured article featured.

Double page, picture of plain regrets in concert. Then intro into their music and what they have been working on.

Magazine Overviews

NME
I like this magazine because it has a good house style but it also like the way of having the big picture of the chosen artist in the page and having those colours which are carried on across the pages (red) makes it flow.  I don’t particularly like the fact that parts of it look like a newspaper, and I would personally change this.

Uncut
I like uncut because it looks nice but I think the front cover is a bit busy and has too many colours which almost make the magazine look childish. Because of this look I want to make sure that I make my magazine cover quite simple with colour on the front because I want mine to look more of a teen audience, an audience which is into the rock music. The thing I like from this magazine is the double page spread it looks really nice and is just appealing to the eye by using band colours and good photos.

Q
I like the Q as it is a nice and clear layout and has a good layout which is reader friendly. The house style is consistent and I believe it looks professional and well thought out.

From this magazine I want to take away the use of a retro look with the letters and house style, I think this is specifically nice because it goes well with my genre of being a rock magazine.

Evaluation of Prelim Task

Evaluation of Prelim Task

1.    I did somewhat plan my magazine, I found that I needed to make sure exactly what photos I needed before I made my magazine. This was because I knew if I got bad images then I would regret it. So this is why I somewhat planned my magazine before I began. I believe this is important to plan because if you don’t plan then you won’t get a good magazine and it could be all over the place.

2.   I used Page Plus and I did this by initially getting a title sorted and using my images to create pugs. Also I decided that using photo plus would be easy to remove backgrounds.

3.    The main difficulty was to understand that less, is more. When you ever crowd and use a lot of colour the magazine can look tacky and trying to construct and make the magazine into a good magazine for the target audience was also difficult.

4.     I believe my magazine was successful as it was simple and effective. The colours were nice and I think it works for its target audience.
